In a blog entitled "On the Future of Books" on October 14, 2010 James Crawford, engineering director of Google Books, reported that Google Books had scanned, and made searchable, more than 15 million books from more than 100 countries in over 400 languages as part of the Google Books project initiated in 2004.
By April 2013 Google Books had scanned "more than 30 million books," doubling the size of the project in less than four years.
