American Magazine embossed cloth binding

The cloth used for the contemporary cloth binding on my copy of the stereotype reprint of Vol. 1 of the American Magazine is the most deeply embossed cloth that I have ever seen used on a bookbinding. You can see the embossing if you enlarge the "Thumbnail". The binding presumably dates from about 1840.
