According to Morrill Wyman's Memoir of Daniel Treadwell (1888, p. 346) newspaper publisher and journalist Nathan Hale was the first to apply steam power to newspaper production in Massachusetts when he introduced a Treadwell Power Press to print the Boston Daily Advertiser in 1829.
