In 1688 George de Sepibus issued from Amsterdam the first book on the museum collected by the Jesuit polymath and prolific writer
Athanasius Kircher in Rome. The title of the work was
Romani Collegii Societatis Jesu Musaeum celeberrimum, cuius magnum antiquariae rei, statuarum, imaginum, picturarumque partem. With its many beautiful engravings the book was probably designed to promote the museum.
The book was graced with probably the most famous portrait of Kircher.
