Henri Cayol Establishes the First Lithographic Press in Istanbul

In 1831 Henri Cayol of Marseille opened the first lithographic press at the Ministry of War in Istanbul with his cousin Jacques Cayol. They established the press under the patrongage of the admiral and statesman Koca Hüsrev Mehmed Pasha. This was the first lithographic press in the Ottoman Empire. The first lithographed book they published in 1831 was Nukhabt al talim (The Elite Education).
