In December 2020 IKEA announced that they would end publication of their printed catalogue after 70 years.[5]
"First published in Swedish in 1951,[1] the catalogue is considered to be the main marketing tool of the company and, as of 2004, consumes 70% of its annual marketing budget.[2] Worldwide, approximately 208 million copies of the catalogue were printed in fiscal year 2013, more than double the number of Bibles expected to be printed in the same period.[3]
The first IKEA catalogue was published in 1951 in Sweden. It had 68 pages and was distributed in 285.000 copies in Southern Sweden. 2016 was the record year when the catalogue was distributed in 200 million copies, in 69 different versions, 32 languages and more than 50 countries.[4] (Wikipedia article on IKEA Catalogue, accessed 12-2020).
