In 1974 Paul Wentzcke & Gerhard Lüditke edited the second edition of
Minerva-Handbücher. Archive. Archive im deutschsprachigen Raum, in 2 volumes, with 1433 pages, published by Walter de Gruyter. This is the annotated guide to the history of the many archives in Germany. Some of these archives date back to the 14th century. For example, the Historisches Archiv der Stadt Köln "has existed since at least the year 1322. In 1326 the
city council decided to establish the so-called White Book (
Weißes Buch), a book of copies of charters and privileges. By 1370 the archives were located in the
Haus zur Stessen.
