About 1842 Parisian lithographer Joseph Lemercier (1803-1887) issued a tinted lithograph depicting himself with clients in the interior of his lithography plant. This rare print, which adds human touches to the printing process, is reproduced from the copy in the Princeton's Graphic Arts Collection (GC 077). The lithograph was drawn on stone by Charles Villemin (active 1835-1849) after a design by Victor Adam (1801-1866). It was entitled
Interieur de l’Imprimerie lithographique de Lemercier. At this point in time the many lithographic presses that Lemercier operated were powered by hand.
