On September 7, 1811 American editor and publisher
Hezekiah Niles of Baltimore, Maryland, began publication of
The Weekly Register, from Water-street, near the Merchants' Coffe-House. This was the first weekly newsmagazine in the U.S, and one of the most widely circulated magazines in the U.S.
Niles' Weekly Register covered not only politics, but economics, science, technology, art, and literature. It was continuously published until 1848.
